My dream job would be to work as a film and television
reviewer. I love to watch and analyze both film and television and love how
there are similarities and differences between both mediums. The job appeals to
me because it requires a variety of creativity that has always interested me. Since
I was a child I always enjoyed watching television and going to the movies. A
while after I graduated high school, my passion expanded to world cinema and a
more serious appreciation for television production. The job requires not only
watching a lot of things, but also keeping up to date on new projects that are
being made. The job can also require a lot of research at times. I love doing
research on entertainment history, so this fits in well with my goals as well.
The jobs can vary from day to day, but in my situation I would like to record
videos on sites like YouTube and also write a blog that corresponds with
everything I review.
My inspiration in the field is Roger Ebert. I loved his
writing style. I also agreed with his analysis most of the time, but even when
I did not I just felt he was an entertaining and knowledgeable writer. He
always seemed to truly love what he was doing and it really showed up in his
writing style. Whether or not he liked a film the quality of work always seemed
to be present. He was a true professional and someone who is still a big
influence to me in my love of the profession. He was also one of critics that
made the biggest impact on television with his partner Gene Siskel on the
Siskel and Ebert At the Movies show.
