WK4 Reflection: Project Revision

I read all my feedback and got some good tips. I felt my story needed some music and end titles. Therefore, I decided to add a musical selection and and an ending title card to match my beginning title card. Now, I feel the video is more uniform. I hope that this improves the viewing experience.

WK4 Reflection: RISE Peer Feedback

Note: This story belongs to Dustin Bledsoe. I have uploaded it on my blog for a peer review.

This peer review is for Dustin Bledsoe.

Dustin, I really like what you did with your video. I
enjoyed how you gave a brief history of your life, until you got to Full Sail.
This really helps us to relate more to our stories and how they are similar and
different from yours. It makes me want to go back to my story because I feel
that I can be a bit more specific in certain areas and trim some others. I also
really like how you mixed different styles. The use of photos and animations
kept things varied and are a nice touch. I need to incorporate some variety in
my project.

I really like what you did but I was just wondering what it
was specifically that made you choose Full Sail. If it was in your video, maybe
I missed it. Your story was so involving but I had some questions as to your
inspiration for your choices.

Have you considered going into brief detail about what you
would like to do when you graduate from Full Sail. I think it would make the
story even more interesting and give it some closure. I have to go back to my
story and look into this myself.

It seems like the video could be expanded by just a few
seconds and use a bit more detail in places. Perhaps, just a few more images
showing your future goals. Overall, I think you did a great job though. Your
story definitely gave me some great ideas on how to improve my story and I look
forward to changing a few things from my story because of it.

Sincerely

Larry Antoskiewicz

WK3 Challenge: Digital Storytelling with Mobile Devices

Materials used: IPhones were used for the project. An IPhone was used for pictures and video. Magisto was used for the editing. Pocket WavePad was used for the sound recording. We communicated through Wiggio and Email.

My role in the team was to find a sound program we could use and to record the sound narration. I researched a few different products, and in the end I decided to use Pocket WavePad for my IPhone because it had the features we needed and was very easy to use. I contributed the Pocket WavePad software and also contributed by helping give feedback and staying in touch with teammates. The thing that surprised me honestly was how easy it was to install programs on my phone. It was also very easy to learn Pocket WavePad. I thought it would be harder, because I have never tried to record anything on my phone. I am proud of the fact that we stayed in touch and kept giving each other updates on ideas and progress. The project was challenging from the standpoint that I have never tried to do a project using only mobile devices. It can also be challenging to stay in contact when everyone in the group has a different schedule.

WK3 Practice: Shot List

Script Element
Media
Once upon a time… There was a very sleepy princess
Image of a very sleepy girl, and words “sleepy princess” on the image
And every day… She just couldn’t sleep well even on her very expensive mattress
(Image of her struggling on the bed)
Until one day… She had a dream of a magic mattress waving hands for her, and said to her “Come to save me, I’ve waiting for you for a long time, I’m the best mattress in the world, but I’m under a curse. Only you! The sleepy princess can release me!”
(Image of her sleeping and there is a bubble beside to show the mattress in the dream. Image of the mattress speaking and quote what the mattress says)
Because of that… The sleepy princess woke up worried and excited.
(Image of her waking up showing the emotions on the face)
Because of that… She start the journey to find the great magic mattress.
(Image of her holding baggage beside an open door)
Because of that… Light guide her way in the cursed place, and she could feel the magic mattress is calling for her.
(Image of lights at night, Image of her walking bravely)
Until finally… She found the great magic mattress, so the curse gone immediately. They both are so happy and with tears.
(Image of her and the mattress, her face shows surprised the cloud around the mattress is gone. Image of her beside the mattress use hands to cover the face, pretend she is crying )
And ever since that day… The sleepy princess and the great mattress lived happily ever after.

WK3 Analysis: Businesses & Audiovisual Media

Full Sail promotes itself very well in the video.  They promote storytelling and give the student access to industry tools right away. This is accomplished by project LaunchBox. Full Sail including MacBook pros right away is a great promotional and recruiting tool. This means that all students will be on the same footing right away and allows for practicing many different skill sets, even before certain classes take place. Full Sail also promotes real world education by teaching professional skills throughout their programs. By emulating the industry and having a twenty-four hour schedule Full Sail really can say they are real world education. I feel the story is that with hard work anyone can make his or her dreams of working in the entertainment industry happen.

Dollar Shave takes a similar route that they did with their razor blades. They use outrageous humor and strange situations to announce the wipes product. The ad seems to be even more over the top than their razor blade ad. It is consistent with the humor that the company has used as an image in the past. It seems that the company is trying to one up themselves, in a way. The story is just that an everyday normal person can use this product and in almost any situation. The story is really just a group of scenes that all talk about the wipes. It seems Dollar Shave Club feels that they have a winning formula to expand, because the tone of their ads and blog are very consistent for each product.

Science World uses their ad to show everyday people having fun. They show families of all ages to really emphasize a fun learning environment for children of all ages. Throughout the video, Science World also cleverly shows a variety of things to look at. They accomplish this by having different people singing having fun in different locations throughout Science World. This technique also emphasizes showing how big the place is. The video is almost eight minutes long and there seems to be no repetition of locations. This also tells a potential visitor that the trip is worth their time, as there are plenty of different things to look at when they come to the museum. The ad also uses upbeat music to emphasize the fact that Science World is a fun place to be. This ad is consistent with Science World blog pages and others advertising. Their story is really that learning about science can be a fun experience for children and adults.

The one thing that is consistent about all three videos is that the companies are very consistent in the way they market their various resources.

WK3 Practice: Team Organization

Our entire team has been in contact several times today. I know for sure that are topic is mattresses. We do not have an exact script yet, but we are going with this topic for the video. I know that I will be working on the audio portion of the project and am working on sampling different audio programs in the next few days. We will continue to work on the script as well. Gabrielle will be working on photography and Gabrielle and Yinuo have been very helpful today. All of the other jobs have not been decided yet.I feel we will make good progress as the week continues.

WK2 Analysis: Businesses & The Visual Web

Full Sail uses Pinterest to help a perspective or current student to keep updated on everything going on within the framework of the school. Full Sail breaks things down by categories, which in turn serves two great purposes. It allows the user to see how diverse Full Sail is and also lets the user focus on areas of particular interest in a convenient manner. The content supports Full Sail by keeping the school current by engaging in new activities all of the time. This seems like a winning combination as Full Sail can promote all of their new ideas, while students can easily keep updated with specific areas of interest. This is a great platform for Full Sail because it really allows Full Sail to highlight everything they offer.
Dollar Shave uses funny ads and cartoons on Instagram, which fit in perfectly with their marketing. The content is another form of advertisement for Dollar Shave. The user might be interested in Dollar Shave after watching a commercial and if they use Instagram it would be a nice supplement. Also, someone who has never seen the ad, might be compelled to watch it, after looking at the pictures on Instagram. Dollar Shave engages their audience by consistently having offbeat and funny ads. By thinking outside the box, they stand out as unique which makes a their ads remembered by the consumer. This is also another way for Dollar Shave to keep costs down, as these ads can take the place of more expensive forms of advertisement.
Science World uses a lot of the same content on Facebook that they use on their website. It seems that they use Facebook in much the same way. Where Dollar Shave and Full Sail seem to use a different type of content on Instagram and Pinterest, Science World seems to be going for more of a supplemental type approach on Facebook. This makes sense for their target audience. The content is very supportive of the Science World brand by promoting their product to children of all ages. The content is certainly designed to cause enough interest that consumers will be compelled to visit Science World. They are very careful to post their contact information right on the main page, right underneath their main title and picture. Science World engages with their audience by combining pictures with interesting science facts.

Overall, I would say all three companies use social medial in different ways, but each is consistent with their marketing strategies.

WK1 Project: My MCBS Story

Before I started the MCBS Program I was watching a lot movies and television shows, going back to what I really enjoyed doing. I had worked retail and other jobs and not been satisfied with them. I had always thought that I wanted to get into film or television reviewing in some capacity, but realized its a tough field to get into and I did not have enough information to really get started. Film and television history and media has always been a big interest of mine. I was advised to go into a popular field where there is a large job market. But then I decided that I needed a new direction and some new career goals. I tried it the way others said and it just did not work for me. Because of that I decided to start looking for schools that could help me advance in social media and technology. I was browsing the net a lot looking up all kinds of film theory and communications degrees. Because of that I came across Full Sail, a school in which I had attended several years ago. I had remembered liking Full Sail, but just not being the right fit for me at the time. Because of that I started researching the different programs, as some new ones had been added since I previously attended the school. I looked at the Media Communications program and did some research on it. Until finally I decided I would enter the Media Communications program.  I contacted Full Sail to inquire about reentering the school. And ever since I decided to pursue my passions for media communications, I have been much more motivated and doing a lot more research on my own. I feel that this was a great decision and look forward to learning a lot throughout the Media Communications program.

I read Christina’s story. I thought it was great how she really expressed her passion for the things she loves. I tried to add some of that to my story. Her story also had a great flow to it. I also read Sandra’s story. I really liked how her story took a turn just like mine did. Sandra’s story was inspiring because she decided to change her career ambitions. I found this story very much like mine. The story also flowed nicely. These stories helped me with adding to my story.
